We are still trapped in a perpetual downward spiral characterized by brutality by agents of the state (the police), highest murder rate in the caribbean, the highest levels of poverty second only to Haiti, deplorable health care system, very high unemploy ment rate, lack of ambulance service for every single citizen, trillions of dollars in debt to the world Bank and IMF, never ending long lines at the US embassy because people are trying to escape this land of emancipation, lack of proper roads, people begging all over the island, increased prostitution just to survive, thousands of college graduates without work . Please tell me what are we emancipated from. In the midst of all the hardships and heavy pressure , the only true emancipation that the entire population gets is the joy of victory and jubilation given to us by our athletes , especially Bolt. At this time of the year , we all get a chance to EMANCIPATE our minds from all the stress and pressure. USAIN BOLT IS A TRUE PROVIDER OF EMANCIPATION FOR ALL JAMAICANS HOME AND ABROAD.

You want to replace culture and heritage ? The future doesnt matter if you dont know where you're coming from. The present doesn't matter even.
Look Usain is a public figure, he has made Jamaica proud. HE IS A CELEBRITY. What makes him famous is subject to change whereas the emancipation park is a true reminder; a foot hold, a root of where we are coming from . That will forever forge jamaicas future. Usain is just a celebrity. I dont see a Michael Jackson statue and that guy was a legend. No one sofar has gain as much as he did. I dont care about the other countries putting up Usain..its their economy, their space; if anything we have better things to do. I doubt Usain even spends most of his money here. Jamaica will put up a statue of him if they see fit but trust me as most of the smart Jamaicans are already saying...its not advisable

Sheldon RhodenYour an educated fool. It is best to build another park in his home parish. With two important park we could attract more tourist. You might not know but the statue at Emancipation park attract alot of tourist too. Do not take out your anger on Emancipation day, take it out on Independence day. Most country who remained under british rule. Most of us have to be going there for job opportunities. We did not get emancipated free it came with a cost our ancestors fight for it and die for it. Politicians tricked us into independence so they can take advantage of us.
